Coverages Available from OFP

The Ohio FAIR Plan (OFP) offers coverage for structures and contents of real property located in the state of Ohio that meets its underwriting criteria and has been denied coverage by at least 2 insurance companies. Available coverages are briefly described below:

  • Dwelling Property coverage is available for 1-4 family dwellings, whether tenant-occupied or owner-occupied.
  • Homeowners coverage is available for 1 & 2 family dwellings that are the owner's primary residence.
  • Condo coverage is available for condominium units that are the owner's primary residence.
  • Renters coverage is available for a renter's personal property and liability exposures.
  • Farm Fire coverage is available for dwellings, tools, machinery, harvested crops, contents, farm buildings, livestock, etc. located on an active farm. A risk is considered a farm if over 50% of the crops, livestock, etc. is produced for sale to others.
  • Commercial Fire coverage is available for commercial (non-manufacturing) establishments and/or apartment buildings which have 5 or more units.
  • Crime coverage, for residential or commercial property, is available for property contents.
  • Rehabilitation coverage is available for vacant properties undergoing significant renovations.

Cancellations and Non-Replacements of Coverage through OFP will specify the reasons for such action and will be handled in compliance with the contract for insurance.

Notices of Non-Eligibility for Coverage through the Ohio FAIR Plan will specify reasons for such non-eligibility.

No licensed agent shall hold himself out as an agent of the Ohio FAIR Plan or have any authority to bind insurance for the Ohio FAIR Plan. However, all Ohio-licensed property and casualty agents have the responsibility to assist individuals who apply for coverage through the Ohio FAIR Plan (Ohio Administrative Rule 3901-1-18(D)(1) and (D)(2)).
